My style is…

Since I am a lifestyle photographer I have the privilege to photograph a wide variety of subjects. I do it all! I photograph anywhere between a newborn baby, a family of four, to a beautiful bride and a breath taking boudoir model. I love each and every moment of it! I love building a relationship with my clients and nothing makes me happier as a photographer than to have my clients to come back to me and tell me how much they loved their portraits and how they will cherish those images for a lifetime.

I have a very specific style of photography, which can be viewed in my gallery page. I strive to keep learning new techniques in my field to produce fresh, modern portraits that you will be proud to display on your walls.

AN INTERVIEW WITH KAYLA

What first drew you in to photography?

Initially, like so many others I loved being able to document my children’s every milestone. Not that I hadn’t been of course, but having more control over how the image turned out really intrigued me. I was a graphic artist before becoming a photographer so I already knew the in’s and out’s of the photoshop world. I’m absolutely and 100% addicted to my art. Being able to freeze time with my camera, documenting every detail, and then having the ability to manipulate and enhance that specific image amazes me.

Do you work out of a studio or on location?

I am a on location photographer so that means I visit clients homes, downtown, the beach or anywhere I feel I can capture a unique-one of a kind shot. I meet my clients at a convenient place to discuss fine details.

What’s your favorite subject to photograph?

That’s a hard one! I really love newborn photography…while I have to admit, I do feel bad sometimes bothering these sweet little babies by putting them in crazy positions. But I love it when the mom’s rave about the portrait after seeing the final image. I also love photographing weddings….I once heard the term roller coaster job when referring to wedding photography. I do understand this phrase. Weddings are high pace for photographers, carrying equipment, being on the move constantly and then the countless hours of editing. But…..they are so much fun and worth the stress! The bride is gorgeous, the setting is perfect and everyone is happy and ready to have a good time. All this equals a great portrait!

Favorite products you sell to your clients…

The CD’s are a huge hit with my clients. All the edited images are on the disc for the client to enjoy. I love love love my metal art images! The sleek, trendy design is a conversation starter! My husband has one of our boys sitting on his desk at work. People are always asking him where he got the cool piece of art, and telling him how unique it is. Definitely a top product in my book! Also, the luxe frames are NEW and so gorgeous!

What inspires you as a photographer?

So many things! I am a very visual person, I love bright colors and vintage surroundings. Photography workshops always get me motivated to do things bigger and better. I love swapping stories with my fellow photographers, bouncing ideas off each other and brainstorming creative ideas. Finding a new prop has to be my biggest inspiration. If I find something new and unique I will find away to incorporate a theme around it. I also love it when my clients have creative ideas and offer advice. I am up for about anything when it comes to a unique new shot.

You are also a design studio….what does that mean?

Since I am also a graphic designer I can offer my photography clients unique, one of a kind products. These products include custom invitations, announcements, holiday cards etc. I also pride myself in branding new businesses, and creating marketing material for those new small businesses. Collages are a big hit with my clients. I love my 20×20 custom photo collages, such a great way to display several images at one time.

What kind of equipment do you use?

I am a Canon girl…I have 2 Canon cameras, a Canon 7D and my husband carries the Canon 50D. I have various lens ranging in sizes to allow me to capture a wide variety of depths and subjects. I am a avid prop collector and I am always scoping out antique stores to find vintage props for my clients. On a average shoot you will see with my one of many Kelly Moore Bags on my shoulder (bags are my obsession), my camera around my neck and a prop in my hand. I only carry the 32 GB flash cards, this allows me to shoot until my heart is content.

What has been one of your proudest moments in your career?

There have been so many moments in my career that have made me smile, cry and laugh. My job as a photographer is to capture emotion on people’s face, the body language that is expressed to one another and the overall ability to freeze a moment in time. I absolutely LOVE getting cards in the mail thanking me for such a wonderful experience, or an email from a mom telling me that viewing her images of her child for the first time brought tears to her eyes. One thing that makes me melt is knowing that I am allowed to be apart of so many people’s memories. One perfect example is a wonderful client of mine named Julie. Julie hired me to be her wedding photographer. From the wedding I went on to photograph her maternity portraits, her daughter’s newborn portraits and now continued family portraits. I captured each huge milestone in Julie’s life so far. How lucky am I! I have a great job let me tell you!
